Open License Program

Nuance's OLP (Open License Program) is for companies, large or small, who want to purchase multiple copies of Dragon and who might want to purchase more in the future, though not as many as the first time. There are no OLPs for Medical, but there are for the non-medical versions.

An OLP is similar to "volume pricing," but with one important difference: It's called "open" because once the initial purchase is made, additional licenses can be added -- for the same lower price -- without having to meet the initial "volume" level all over again. For instance, if your company purchased six copies of Professional at once, you would not only get a lower price, but you could purchase two more three months from now for the same lower price: you wouldn't have to buy another six to qualify.

You might think this was just for big cheeses, but in fact, even smaller groups can qualify. It's all based on points. You have to meet a minimum number of points to qualify -- for the initial purchase, this number is fifty. Since each copy of Dragon Professional, for example, is worth 16 points, this means that once you buy four, you're in. Premium is worth 8 points, so you'd need to buy seven to qualify. There are exceptions to this, but more on that in a bit.

There are also different discount levels, so someone who buys 100 Professionals is obviously going to get a better deal than someone who buys four. Still, there are savings to be had by everyone.

An OLP license runs for two years. During that time, you can buy as many additional copies of the software as you wish, for the same lower price, as long as you meet a 20-point minimum. (For those of you counting on your fingers, that's two copies of Professional or Legal.)

Nuance also offers Maintenance for OLP's. Maintenance includes backup technical support directly from Nuance, plus upgrade assurance, which offers the opportunity to stay current with the software by receiving all updates and upgrades issued during that year for no additional cost. It runs for one year, and you have the opportunity to renew it for the second year of the OLP.

The nice thing is, Maintenance also is worth points (four for Professional and Legal, and two for Premium), so when you add those points in, you can qualify for an OLP purchase with fewer software licenses. For instance, instead of having to buy four Professionals to qualify, you can buy three licenses and three Maintenance (3 x 16 points for software = 48 points, plus 3 x 4 points for Maintenance = 12... a total of 60 points).
